Many of us at NetSupport have an active interest in environmental
issues. After all, climate change is a threat to every one of
us. We can't reverse the damage already done, but we can stop
it from becoming worse.
The environment, or more specifically, our consumption of
limited mineral resources and our continued growing emissions
of CO2, have become an increasingly hot topic.
Businesses such as ours are recognizing that we can be doing
more to address the impact we have on the environment. And
although we have been doing our bit for the past few years
- we want to do more.
NetSupport have been developing Remote Control solutions
for the last 19 years, so as a company that has built its
reputation on delivering tools to avoid the need for engineers
to visit remote sites, indirectly we have already been supporting
a reduction in many of our customers carbon footprints. It
is of course, not enough.
We know it's easy to be cynical of business motives, but NetSupport
like every company is made up of people, and it is people
who have driven our change in attitude to green issues not
the marketing team or our accountants thinking we can save
more money.
Just over a year ago a group of our staff formed our very
own NetSupport Green Team - to look at ways in which we could,
as a company, be more responsible to our environment. This
group have already made a significant impact on us already.
For example, we have introduced recycling, with every one
of us having a dedicated recycling station, we have implemented
low energy lighting in key workspaces, have introduced the
automated power down of non-critical systems out of hours
and switched to greener energy suppliers.
Our staff are now looking to develop a car-sharing program
as well as looking at better use of electronic data handling
to reduce our paper and print consumption.
This might not be much in global terms but we are doing our
bit to head in the right direction.
